UN PLWD Rights Questionnaire
NIGERIA REHABILITATION THERAPISTS AND THE UNITED NATIONS CONVENTIONS ON THE RIGHTS OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES: AN APPRAISAL OF AWARENESS AND KNOWLEDGE.

Dear respondents,
The global estimate for disability is on the rise. Presently about 15% of the world’s population live with some form of disability of whom 2-4% experience significant difficulties in functioning (WHO 2016). Sadly, 80% of this population live in the developing countries. In fact, (20%) one out of every five of the poorest people, living in developing countries has a disability (Handicap International, 2015). While poverty, inequalities in distribution of social amenities and economic opportunities, coupled with illiteracy, have been identified to be predisposing, and perpetuating disability in developing countries (United Nations 2006), ignorance on the part of Rehabilitation Therapists on the existing laws on the right of PLWDs, can further worsen the situation thus incumbent on the Rehabilitation Therapists globally to be well informed, about these laws. This is more important, especially now in Nigeria, considering the fact that the country is on the verge of passing the PLWD Act (a domesticated version of the UN conventions on PLWD), and also considering the spate of the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents, militants and herdsmen which render many people disabled on daily basis.
Therefore, in an attempt to appraise the knowledge of the Rehabilitation Therapists in Nigeria, in this area, with a view to improving the of plight of PWD, this study; Nigeria Rehabilitation Therapists and the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of People Living With Disabilities: An appraisal of awareness and knowledge, is being conducted.
This survey is being carried out by an occupational therapist in collaboration with the MEDICAL REHABILITATION THERAPISTS (REGISTRATION) BOARD OF NIGERIA (MRTB). Your consent and participation is thus required by responding, to this questionnaire.
