Team members from Sightsaver Organisation paid a courtesy visit to  Medical Rehabilitation Therapy (Registration) Board of Nigeria on Tuesday 4th of February 2025.
The meeting was aimed at bridging the gap between persons living with disabilities and health practitioners.

Mr Anghee Pnepel, a member of Sightsaver, pointed out areas affecting the communication process between persons living with disabilities and the medical team.
People with hearing and speech impairment interacting with the health practitioners is difficult due to lack of proper knowledge of sign language and other forms of communication and interactions that ensures inclusivity.

The need for training in the health sector on the medium of communication should be considered.
Mrs Esther Bature, a member of the team, emphasized the need to review curricula to ensure health professionals acquire knowledge and skills about disability inclusiveness from undergraduate level. A technical meeting was proposed with relevant stakeholders to further discuss these important issues.

The Registrar, Medical Rehabilitation Therapists  (Registration) Board of Nigeria, Prof Rufai Yusuf Ahmad, welcomed the team and assured them of the Board’s support.
